IT’S ABOUT LIVING by: Traci Bogan

September 11, 2001

It has been said throughout the yearbooks of our history
Leaving behind in its wake, a few clues, toward solving life’s mystery
That a name sculpts and defines a man and causes to be
the essence of his soul, his core humanity
And he who exudes merit, that he diligently farms
The filling within his own persona and charms
The inner substance that lies solid, sacred, and true
Born from the very seed that once had sown you
You see, you’re not just some letters spelling your name
Or words etched in stone, on life’s walk of fame
But a treasure, a memory, a spirit, a soul
Capable of touching, enlightening more lives than you’ll know
Illuminating, emanating, and elating your song
Whistling tunes of endearment in your own search to belong
Much like a rainbow with multi dim mentions and piercing hues
You are able to achieve anything you so choose.

And with this, it all seems surreal, so hard to believe How such hatred can be a man’s goal to achieve No one will ever forget the day our nation stood silent and still Leaving behind a desolate void that we can never fill No one will ever understand or know the reasons why Nor can we comprehend this blackness, even if we try We are one world under God, this Earth is our Mother And yet, we are sabotaged and torched, betrayed by our neighbor, our brother A slow search for a meaning, that we will never get About the darkest day in our history, that we will never forget.

And I want to say some things from my humble point of view As we continue to live our small lives without having a clue It’s about “getting” the BIG PICTURE that is larger that WE It’s about understanding the concept that 1 + 1 + = THREE For what really has changed in the chain of our History’s yesteryear We haven’t unlearned anything to evolve our humanity, since our ancestors were here We are still naïve and vein enough to believe that this Life is about us, you, and me Man still hasn’t a clue about surrendering to a higher wisdom, a greater prodigy.

You see, there isn’t always going to be a tomorrow We all will return back to the waters of sorrow As our living years being to rust And our flesh and bones turn to dust A whole life filled with body, with breath Fills just a cup, with ashes, in death It is not how we die, but how we live that will matter As our precious flesh and bones once, are just particles to scatter.

So, you see, life is about Loving ..Life is about Living It’s about Surrendering, it’s about Evolving, it’s about Giving It’s about positively infecting the lives of those we surround Even when stepping up and stretching, solo, seems so profound It’s about growing more congruent with our own truth It’s about molding, shaping and sculpting the minds of our youth It’s about taking the time to rebuild a burned bridge And rolling up your sleeves to work on a relationships rough ridge It’s about true humility and humbling pride It’s about knocking down the walls of ego behind which we hide It’s about going the extra mile, finding a void to fill It’s about FORGIVING an old debt, an old friend, an ill will.

It’s about honor and loyalty, making amends Seeing that strangers are simply just unmet friends It’s about the giving of self, the giving of time Whether it be by donating your blood or by mailing your dime It’s about coming together, and taking a stand, Doing anything outside of your self to lend your needy brother a hand It’s about reaching in, reaching back and silently reflecting It’s about the Freedom of America -- that our soldiers are protecting It’s about delivering a message or speaking some comforting word Something so beautiful and significant that it has never before been heard It’s about leaving behind a Vantage, an individualized legacy to claim It’s about losing your life to save another, without even knowing his name It’s about turning the other cheek, it’s about living with meaning It‘s about sorting through your dirty laundry that’s overdue in its cleaning.

It’s about pulling others up with you when you’re rising above It’s about accepting each others diversity and teaching each other how to love It’s about getting in touch with your higher consciousness and self It’s about dusting off and old friends phone number from your shelf It’s about burying the hatchet, throwing away a pride or ego driven grudge And recognizing how quick we are to criticize another, though who are we to judge.

It’s about not passing careless whispers, causing our social decay And start washing the very backs of those whom we stab and betray When we stop looking into each others wallets and instead look into each others eyes It is then we can truly love one another and genuinely comfort each others cries So in conclusion, I say, that it is you and I that must begin With nation against nation and brother against brother no one can ever win We are standing at the apex of a learning curve Cultivating a turning point for our future generations to observe Critical Mass can happen here, if we search beyond, we will find It all depends on what message we want to send, and what legacy we want to leave behind So in this time of trial and terror, when we grieve, mourn and fret We must remain united in times passage, and remind each other never to forget.

Once we see that we are of one world, a concept still not understood nor found Then we will understand that there are no sides to take, on an earth that is round!!! MAY WE LEARN TO LOVE EACH OTHER DEEPLY. In memory of and dedication to every human being affected, effected, infected By September 11th, 2001 The Hero’s. The Stewards. The Shepherds. The Survivors.
